Urbanizing Kathmandu

Urbanization has been an integral process of the modern developing world. But after all, what is the benefit? The narrow streets of Kathmandu now cannot withstand the monstrous traffic. So the government has started to  widen the streets. The structures around the streets, public or communal, have been destroyed. Houses are sliced and parts of it swallowed by the street. But still, the hope that urbanization gives the people, of happiness and luxury, cannot be made real. The pavement is still dusty and uneven. This documentation documents and questions some of the efforts that are taken to develop Kathmandu‘s city structure. All photos were taken in 2012.
